English Week : Day 4 & 5

On the 4th day, which is Thursday, we had, for the Form 5s, highlight of the event for English Week - Debate.
Since 5H and 5P were the only classes that have participants for Debate, only the students of 5H and 5P were there to watch the debate. And man, they sure enjoy every single moment of the debate, because it was more like a sit-com rather than being all serious about arguing with the opposition.
The topic was on This House Believes That The Media Is Eroding Our Traditional Cultures.
This is the government team - 5H. And this is the opposition team - 5P. Just look at the differences between their expressions.
And so the debate started off with the 1st speaker from the government team.

"With this we can be sure that the media is slowly, but surely eroding our traditions." After that was the 1st speaker of the opposition, which exploded with cheers and laughter when titles of cartoon such as Bob The Builder, Postman Pat and Power Rangers were mentioned.
Then it was the 2nd speaker of the government team.

"Our media is corrupting our country!"
"POI!" (Point Of Information)
"Our country is already corrupted!" Then a wave of cheers swam through the hall.

"You know my place, Portuguese Settlement there always have San Pedro and Christmas celebrations every year and there will be young reporters interviewing about our culture. So the media is good!" Of course, if you want to talk professionally, 5H trashed 5P.
But if you want to talk a group of students who never been to debate before and have no clue on what is happening, didn't prepare their speeches, cheered by 5P students (and some of 5H too), and government boo-ed by the students, indirectly, 5P trashed 5H really hard.
I think this is the only debate where winning doesn't matter, instead, humour does. I mean... Yeah.

On the final day, Master Malaysia was held. It's like a game of monopoly, but instead of getting cashes and getting into jail, you answer questions like :
What is P.Ramlee's real name?
Which is the first temple built in Malaysia?
Torturing, I know.
The categories fall into Land, Culture, People, Heritage and General aka Risk.It was the event with the most participants. Mostly because they had no clue what the game's about and an excuse for them to skip classes.

Number of contestants. A student trying to understand the rules of the game. And a guy who completely knows what's going on. Briefing of the game's rules and how to play. Let the game begins! Overall, the game ended well with people tormented by the questions and some others who were lucky to get the easier ones. Well, everyone had fun.

Oh, almost forgot. On Thursday after school, Singing Competition was held. I should stop here.

English Week : Days 1, 2 & 3

It has been our school's tradition to organize the English Language Week every year. This year, the school authority handed the job to us, the English Language Society. It is really an irony that they would give us the job, consider that the school authority's the one who has been handling every year. On the other hand, our society has such few members that my fingers are literally more than our society's members. (Uhh... I lost count.)

So, on the 1st day, we have Story Telling Competition for Form 1. Unfortunately on that day we didn't bring camera. But it was great to find out that they actually came fully prepared.
Well, some of them. And some even recited poem that didn't even last for 30 seconds.

On the 2nd day, we had Spelling Bee for the Form 2.

Top 21 semi finalists.
It was really a surprise how genius some of them were. Words like gnat, exacerbescence, oppugnant and sialologue were nailed by them.

The top 5 finalists.
Left to right : Stoned by the word that was given, Awkward legs position, Innocent looking guy who looks like he's pointing middle finger. And to actually think that I spent my studying time on day dreaming, eating snacks and now, blogging.

After school it was Treasure Hunt aka Spot The Spot because there were no treasures but only riddles to the spots that they were suppose to find.
Here are some of the riddles that we gave :
A statue's torse you will meet, 8 digits with a dash in between. I'm another name for donkey, and an M in front of me. (Sorry Maths and Science Society members) Contestants sprinting to victory after solving all the riddles.
On the 3rd day, Drama Competition for the Form 4 were held. Too bad (and good) that only 3 classes participated. 2 classes did the short story Looking For A Rain God. Both dramas were kinda messy and a lot of shouting were in the play too. I think it's because they lack time to practice. And another class did The Necklace which I think was good and a lot of humour in between.
Here are some pictures during the preparation.

Committees and some of the actors. Spot the girl.Applying make up for the role as a girl. An image that even the Devil itself will weep about. That is not his "stick".Class of 4K.
So, the drama began with class 4K. Their costumes were awesome but too bad the play was quite off topic. But you gotta give credit for this guy.
Click on the image to enlarge it, and look closely at the only person who's wearing a mask.Men in deep conversations.
Next up was 4P. Also on the drama Looking For A Rain God. Was better but still quite messy. =(
Nesta releasing stress on a doll. That is not a girl! The whole drama crew.
And the last one, was 4H on the drama The Necklace.
Mathilde paying a visit to Madame Forestier. "I look gorgeous!" Nicely choreographed dancing, to one of Akon's songs. When Mathilde found out that she lost the necklace, and needs to work for life off just to pay back the necklace.

"Got teh ais?" Got.
"Got milo ais?" Got.
"Got nescafe ais?" Got.
"Okay, give me one warm water." "Please don't go! I need the money!" After the drama, it was yet another photo session.
The committees and most of the drama actors. Horny me.

Sweet Sound

My brother came down today.
This time, he brought with him a box which looks like this. I've been stuck with my laptop which has no speakers for a long time. Sometimes I find it hard to enjoy a good movie with no "umphh".
So I asked my brother to buy a good set of speakers, with reasonable price from his I.T. shop. Hope he doesn't charge me anything (greediness at it's best).
When I open the box, this is what I saw. I thought there was nothing inside and it's just a joke, after all, it's still April now. But beneath that is this. Sweet.
Like other speakers, it comes with a bass booster to rock your house down. 2 high tech looking speakers. And a setup guide book. This is how it looks like together with my laptop. Sweet to the max. Now I can fully enjoy my songs and annoy my parents with loud music.

Absence Doesn't Mean Vanished

Today I was having duet with my piano teacher, then suddenly I stopped playing and said, "Yeah I practiced until here."
... in Chinese.
I always speak to my piano teacher in English but suddenly I was talking as if I'm having another normal class with my violin teacher.
I kinda missed my classes with my violin teacher although a lot of scolding for not practicing and telling me philosophy stuff were involved.
But not long ago, he passed away due to old age and the last I saw him was about 4 months ago, excluding the funeral I went to last Friday.
Well now I have to depend on my own to practice my violin and get a good mark for Violin Grade 6 Examination.I'm sure he was looking at me practice duet with my piano teacher today, somewhere out there peaceful, and serene.

SeaYa Exhibition

I visited this place when I was at Sunway Pyramid, but I forgot to post it up. It's a small exhibition about fishes. Since I'm a "frog under a fried prawn" (katak di bawah tempura; I like messing with Bahasa Melayu), I find it quite fascinating. But I don't understand why they put up all these plastic figures. A shark which looks like out of the movie Finding Nemo. And Nemo itself. Fortunately, there were also small aquariums which I was tempted to knock on them. And this was the first fish that I saw. Looks dead.
And a fish which looked pissed off. The only (real) shark that I saw. It's funny how it didn't eat the other fish. Lion fish. Random picture with no good caption. That's it for now. Sea Ya!
